Kalen DeBoer drops the hammer on Alabama Crimson Tide legacy player following his arrest during the team’s bye week
The latest on where he stands.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were idle last week, but unfortunately, there was still some news. CB Dre Kirpatrick Jr., the son of former Alabama CB Dre Kirpatrick Sr., was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempting to elude and speeding. He was released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $1,500 bond, per Alabama.com
That forced Kalen DeBoer to make a tough decision on Kirpatrick’s future with the team.
Dre Kirpatrick Jr. suspended indefinitely by the University of Alabama
“Unfortunately, with the information I have at this time, talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him,” said Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer during his weekly presser via YouTube. “He understands there’s consequences that come with his actions.”
Kirpatrick is a sophomore from Gadsden, Alabama. He played in four games this season, totaling eight total tackles and a forced fumble. His father played under Nick Saban from 2009 to 2011, helping Alabama secure two national championships before being drafted 17th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012.
He would go on to play 10 years in the NFL, including his final two years with the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers. A decision regarding Kirpatrick Jr.’s future at Alabama beyond this season should be expected in the spring.
