Georgia HC Kirby Smart doesn’t hold back on how he feels about Alabama QB Ty Simpson with a bold statement
Kirby Smart is too smart to say anything bad about Alabama’s QB1.
Week 5 of the college football season brings an SEC clash to fans with the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. It was the Crimson Tide who held on for a wild 41-34 win over the Bulldogs last season with QB Jalen Milroe at the helm. Things are a lot different for these teams in 2025 and that includes two different starting quarterbacks on each side. Since the first game against Florida State, Alabama’s starter has really turned it on and he has the attention of Georgia’s head coach.
Kirby Smart gets real about the kind of QB that Ty Simpson is
“(Simpson is) a really good athlete. Like, he’s a tremendous athlete,” Smart said of the Alabama QB on Monday. “He played in games last year, and you watch all the snaps he took, and he has 60, 70, 80-yard runs that are running down the field outrunning good defenses.
“So he’s a talented player. I would say he’s probably the hottest quarterback right now in all of college football. His two last outings, I don’t know that I’ve seen an incompletion, like, the ball does not hit the ground.”
Simpson is a combined 41-of-46 passing for 608 yards and eight total touchdowns over the last two games for Alabama. After starting the season with a rough 23-of-43 showing against the Seminoles, Simpson has shown why he’s the starting quarterback of the Crimson Tide. Kalen DeBoer’s decision to go with Simpson over Austin Mack and Keelon Russell looks like a crucial decision made right. Alabama was on the road in Week 1 at Florida State, so this won’t be the first real test of the year for Simpson on the road.
A win over Georgia would be huge for the Tide and their hopes of making it back to the College Football Playoff this season after being left at home last year. The loss to Florida State was a stringer in the opener, but a win over Georgia in SEC play would all but make up for it. It is a night game in Athens on Saturday, expect it to be a tough environment for the Crimson Tide as always, but one they’re better because of if they can come out on top.
