Pair of dynamic weapons announce visits that would transform Alabama’s offense if the Crimson Tide can pull off massive additions
Alabama is looking to add instant impact players in the transfer portal that would transform the offense, and it’s off to a hot start with Cam Coleman and Hollywood Smothers visiting campus.
The Alabama Crimson Tide had no time to think about how badly its season ended, as the transfer portal opened up just hours after its loss in the Rose Bowl.
We’ve already seen the floodgate open when the portal opened, and it has impacted Alabama in many ways, with players like Jaylen Mbakwe and Jalen Hale leaving the program. The portal works both ways, however, and Alabama will be aggressive in reloading through the portal to bounce back next season.
Alabama has already been linked to two top players in the transfer portal, and they will be on campus soon, with a decision to make on where they will be playing next season. If Alabama can land WR Cam Coleman and RB Hollywood Smothers, people better prepare for fireworks next season, no matter who the QB is.
Alabama will be hosting WR Cam Coleman, who is the No. 1 overall player in the transfer portal
Losing Coleman was a huge blow to Auburn, and now he’s the hottest player in the portal, with significant interest from top teams across the country.
Coleman has a tour of colleges he will be visiting, and Alabama is one of his stops, which would be the biggest transfer portal win in a long time. I reached out to fellow A to Z Sport Alabama writer Rob Gregson for his thoughts on Coleman and on whether Alabama has a real shot at landing him.
“As first reported by A to Z Sports, the Crimson Tide has been interested in Coleman since before he ever entered the portal, and who could blame him. One of the most dynamic receiving threats in college football, placing Coleman alongside Ryan Williams, Lotzeir Brooks, and potentially others would be a major plus for the Crimson Tide offense.
“He raises the floor of the passing game while adding a potential that could create the best aerial attack in offense. It won’t be easy for Alabama to land the star, as his asking price is steep and he has many suitors, but a visit is a good sign.” – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama
Coleman is already in Austin, Texas, visiting the Longhorns, and he will be headed to Texas A&M next on Sunday, Texas Tech on Tuesday, and Alabama on Wednesday before finishing his tour at USC on Thursday. We will have to see if Coleman actually takes all of his visits, or if one of the Texas schools writes a check big enough to get his commitment. Coleman isn’t the only hot name that’s coming to campus this week, with Hollywood Smoothers heading to Tuscaloosa as well.
Hollwood Smothers will be visiting Alabama this weekend
It was shocking to see Alabama’s run game struggle throughout the whole season, and it’s already seen Richard Young hit the portal. The good news, however, is that Smothers is the No. 3 RB in the transfer portal, according to On3’s rankings, and he’s headed to Tuscaloosa this weekend.
Smothers is the type of burst and speed that the team needs next season, and a backfield with true freshman Ezavier Crowell could be a dangerous combo for Alabama in 2026.
“Hollywood Smothers isn’t the typical Alabama running back. At 5-11 and sub 200 pounds, he’s not the bruising, north-south tailback like Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram, or even Daniel Hill. What the Crimson Tide hopes he is would be the next Jahmyr Gibbs.
“A tough player to bring down who can be just as explosive and efficient in the passing game as he is as a running back. Whoever is playing QB for Alabama next season will need all the help they can get. The running game simply wasn’t a factor in 2025, and that was a burden that Ty Simpson and the Tide ultimately couldn’t overcome.” – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama
Smothers had 1,128 total yards on offense and seven total touchdowns for the NC State Wolfpack this season.
Smothers was set to visit Alabama and Florida State, but Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported that he cancelled his visit with the Seminoles, so the Crimson Tide is the clear favorite to land the top RB target.
