Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and his recruiting team continue to dominate the trail with relentless momentum. On Saturday, the Crimson Tide secured another elite commitment, this time from Jireh Edwards, a five-star safety from St. Frances Academy in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
With Edwards' pledge, Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class now boasts an impressive five five-star prospects, surpassing all other programs, none of which have more than two. Edwards picked Alabama over strong contenders Auburn and Georgia, with his decision solidifying after a pivotal official visit to Tuscaloosa last month.
His commitment propels Alabama to No. 4 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
The Tide’s 2026 class now includes eight top-100 prospects, positioning DeBoer’s squad as a serious contender for the nation’s top recruiting class by signing day this winter. Edwards, ranked as the No. 2 safety and No. 19 overall prospect nationally, stands at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds.
After visiting Alabama in the spring and locking in his choice following his June official visit, he has now publicly announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide.
He consistently lauded the Tide's coaching staff throughout the recruiting process, and it's paid off for Alabama to build that relationship.
“The guys, Coach DeBoer, he’s a real winning coach,” Edwards said. “He wants to win badly. I feel me and him will match perfect.
“The way they brought my family in with open arms. They love my family. I feel that’s perfect. They did stuff other schools didn’t do. They welcomed me with warm hugs and all that other stuff.”
“I grew up being a Bama fan, watching Bama play,” Edwards told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong about his commitment. “Them doing all the great things on TV. Me having an opportunity to be part of that, you can’t go past … that’s a dream come true.”
Edwards joins an impressive trio of defensive backs in Alabama’s 2026 class. On Christmas Eve, Zyan Gibson, a four-star cornerback from Gadsden City, Alabama, and a top-100 recruit ranked as the nation’s No. 11 cornerback, made an early commitment to the Crimson Tide.
In late March, Jorden Edmonds, a five-star cornerback from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia, ranked as the No. 21 overall prospect and No. 2 cornerback nationally, also pledged to Alabama.
