Kalen DeBoer passionately defends Alabama against growing narrative surrounding SEC Championship game vs. Georgia
Kalen DeBoer thinks any talk of Alabama not making the CFP is a waste of breath.
The Alabama Crimson Tide’s victory over the Auburn Tigers wasn’t as easy as it could of been. A mid-game slog evaporated Alabama’s 17-0 lead, allowing the Tigers to claw their way back into the game, and before long Auburn had things all squared away at 20 a piece.
Part of that was due to the concerning injury from Jam Miller, and another part was due to Alabama looking like it had taken its foot of the gas. But either way, a win is a win, and now all eyes are on Atlanta in a matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. But even though Alabama is the number one seed in the conference, some have wondered if a three-loss Crimson Tide team would be kept out of the playoff. Well, Kalen DeBoer has a message for everyone thinking that.
Kalen DeBoer defends Alabama’s resume
“Yeah, I mean, we’re 7-1 in the SEC. I mean, that would blow my mind, but I know what you’re getting at, that’s crazy. And I don’t mean to saying your question is crazy, but just that would be unreal,” said Kalen DeBoer via the Alabama Crimson Tide YouTube channel when asked about missing the CFP. “You know, I mean we’re 10-2 and 7-1 in the SEC with all these ranked wins, and we got some [good] wins on the road. We got more than a playoff-caliber football team. There’s not a question in my mind.”
For whatever reason, there seems to be an argument that the final spot on the CFP could come down to Alabama against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. That’s right, a Fighting Irish team that played two games against potential playoff teams via Texas A&M and Miami and lost both. A Notre Dame team whose best wins came against USC and Pittsburgh. A team that, as I type this in the early hours of Sunday morning, is finishing their season against the Stanford Cardinal football team, leading by a score of 42-6 before the fourth quarter even starts.
Alabama on the other hand, has wins against four top 25 teams, and even if the team lost to Georgia in Atlanta, they would be SEC runners-up, having split the series with the Bulldogs 1-1 in 2025. So I see where DeBoer is coming from. Alabama should be a lock regardless, but we know that many will be upset if a 3-loss Alabama squad makes it in.
