Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide have started things off a bit slow on the Transfer Portal recruiting trail this December, but they got some phenomenal news on Saturday amid all the College Football Playoff action.

After losing some depth at wide receiver to the Transfer Portal in recent weeks like Kendrick Law (to Kentucky), Kobe Prentice (to Baylor), and Caleb Odom (to Ole Miss), Alabama was in dire need of a win at playmaker.

As of Saturday afternoon, Miami transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton has officially committed to Alabama according to Hayes Fawcett of On3. He was one of the highest rated four star wide receivers available in the portal and should become an immediate contributor for the Crimson Tide.

Isaiah Horton, Wide Receiver

For those unfamiliar with Isaiah Horton's game, he is a former highly touted four star wide receiver from Murfreesboro, Tennessee who will now get to play his games much closer to home in Tuscaloosa. Horton played his pre-college ball at Oakland High School where finished as the 10th highest rated recruit in the state back in 2022.

At 6'4", 205, Horton is the perfect prototypical dominant "X" outside wide receiver who developed into one of the more efficient offensive weapons in the country this past season at Miami.

Yes, at 6'4 with long arms he can certainly win contested situations (around 60 on contested catches according to Pro Football Focus), but he can also create space for himself where is almost none along the sideline, becoming a quarterback's best friend out wide.

He posted 1.92 yard per route run in 2024, which was good for 80th percentile among all FBS wide receivers with at least 100 routes run. And that was all while splitting targets with the all-time receiving yards leader at Miami Xavier Restrepo and a number of other potential NFL playmakers on the Hurricanes this season.

There's a great chance that Horton plugs in right away as the near every snap outside wide receiver for Alabama starting opposite Ryan Williams and alongside Germie Bernard (should he choose not to declare for the NFL Draft next spring).

Alabama still needs to build plenty of depth on offense this offseason with so many player departing to the draft and via the Transfer Portal this month, but landing a commitment from a player that fills the Crimson's Tide's greatest offensive need is a huge win and phenomenal step in the right direction for Kalen DeBoar and his staff. Let's hope this recruiting momentum continues as the portal remains open to enter for all FBS Division I players until December 28th.
