Kalen DeBoer gives encouraging update on the health status of Alabama LB Jah-Marien Latham following scary injury in practice
Here’s the latest on his status.
Alabama Crimson Tide LB Jah-Marien Latham suffered an injury during practice earlier this week that caused him to be transported to UAB for medical attention. The injury was extremely serious, evidenced by his transportation to Birmingham.
During his weekly SEC conference call, head coach Kalen DeBoer offered an encouraging update on Latham:
Jah-Marien Latham health update
“Just to follow up on that, he [Latham] is at UAB, continuing to get value evaluated, [we will] probably know more here in the next 48 hours,” said DeBoer. “But most importantly, he’s got motion and feeling. Just text with him this morning, and he told me to tell the guys he’s doing well. So just more, more tests, more things we got to evaluate. But that’s the latest.”
Anytime you hear someone say that a player has movement and feeling, you know the injury is serious. We don’t know the extent of the injury and probably won’t gather a ton of info since it occurred in practice. The onus is now put on the other Wolf linebackers to step up, and Kalen DeBoer is confident they can.
“Those guys [Qua Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre] are heavily involved already, and just being on the football field, and the number of reps become more clear to them,” added DeBoer. “They always practice hard. [We] expect that to be continued, to be the case. Just gotta make sure we continue to build that depth not only in that room, but all the spots that you know Jah-Marien plays. So, you know, it’s unfortunate, but it’s an opportunity for these guys to step up and continue to improve themselves and our football team.”
Tim Keenan and Jam Miller are expected to return to action against the Georgia Bulldogs, so the team will have some help in that regard, but for now, the focus is on Latham getting back to full health.
