It feels like forever ago given the run that the Alabama Crimson Tide are on thanks to Heisman hopeful Ty Simpson, but the sky was falling in Tuscaloosa just six weeks ago. The Tide went down to Tallahassee and got rolled, thanks in large part to a rough game from the quarterback.

That quarterback is Ty Simpson of course. His confidence never wavered, nor did Kalen DeBoer’s belief in his signal caller. But everything else changed. The poise, command, and anticipation Simpson has played with look night and day since Week 1.

How did that happen? Well, Kalen DeBoer finally revealed a few reasons why.

Kalen DeBoer reveals what Ty Simpson has changed since FSU

“I think there’s a number [0f things],” said DeBoer when asked what has allowed Simpson to better himself. “I don’t know if I could pick one. I think he has done a great job of of taking what the defense gives him. And, you know, when you stack plays, then he’s got the ability and more opportunities to, you know, make the explosive throws. And then I just think mentally, he’s, he’s really done a great job of being able to move on to the next play. He wants it to be perfect, but it’s not always going to be that way.”

Honestly, the only major flaw in Simpson’s game stems from that confidence and perfection that DeBoer is speaking to. He tends to hold onto the ball to the last possible second. Sometimes that leads to sacks and interceptions. But those have been few and far between. Instead, there has been a lot of big-time plays both in and out of structure.

“I mean, the last part is he’s just really stepped up as a leader, and obviously through production and him performing at the level he has in a few of those games right after that, that first week, one game, you know that’s that’s given him a lot of confidence, as well as his teammates and our staff.”

You can see it in the way that Simpson hypes up the team before the game, or the way he approaches teammates on the sideline, that he possesses the leadership qualities that DeBoer is speaking of. Coupling that with what he has shown on the field, and you can see why Alabama has as good a chance as anyone in the nation to make a deep run, starting this Saturday against the Tennessee Volunteers.
