Kalen DeBoer and his Alabama Crimson Tide continue to recruit at an unbelievable level. Not even one week after a massive recruiting weekend that was headline by five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin and running back Ezavier Crowell, the top player in Alabama has opted to stay in-state.
Five-star receiver Cederian Morgan picked the Tide over Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. The second-ranked receiver in the country immediately becomes the natural heir to the massive hole Ryan Williams will leave after the 2027 season when he bolts to the NFL.
Morgan will be a freshman in 2027. But Morgan's mind has him in a different class of freak Alabama playmakers. He's comparing his game and 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame to Julio Jones.
“I am ready to chase my own legacy at Alabama. To be compared to Julio is great… It means a lot. It will motivate me to do what I need to do to be great there,” Morgan explained. His relationship with Alabama goes back to it being his favorite team growing up, and he's well-versed with being at home in Tuscaloosa.
Julio was his favorite player, and he's been to visit Alabama more than a half-dozen times. There were endless draws as to why he shunned Florida, who was hard-charging at the end, to stay with DeBoer and his staff.
“I get to stay home and play for Alabama,” Morgan said. “Alabama has tradition, they win and I get to play for coach Shep, the best receivers coach in the country. He is big on development, I can’t describe our connection and I know he will push me to be the best version of myself on and off the field.”
“Going through this process, I sat down with my people and talked about doing what is best for me. It is about the development and getting to the league. We broke things down and coach Shep is the best at that. He is smart, he has energy, he knows how to coach and I know I will be playing in an offense that features guys like me too.”
Williams set the college world on fire in 2024 as a 6-foot, 185-pound speedster. He caught 48 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns, plus ran for two more. The College Football 26 cover athlete alongside Jeremiah Smith was great, but Julio was even better.
Jones will be an NFL Hall of Famer, and entered the NFL as one of the best receiver prospects of all-time. He finished his Alabama career with 179 receptions, 2,653 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
