Latest transfer portal addition proves that Alabama is focused on getting back to the basics of Crimson Tide football in 2026
The Crimson Tide may have lost out on two flashy weapons, but Alabama’s plan for 2026 is becoming clear.
The Alabama Crimson Tide took not one, but two hits to the shins on Sunday. Just minutes after the Crimson Tide struck out on arguably the top player in the portal, former Auburn Tiger Cam Coleman, a player who was committed to the Crimson Tide for less than a week, jumped ship.
Hollywood Smothers followed Coleman to Texas, and suddenly the WR and RB duo that everyone wanted to see in Tuscaloosa in 2026 vanished into thin air. However, that didn’t deter the decision-makers at the Capstone, as they returned to the lab and added another player to the trenches.
Alabama receives transfer portal commitment from Kedrick Bingley-Jones
Sure, Bingley-Jones doesn’t bring the star power or the sexiness that some of the top players in the portal do. But what this commitment proves is that Alabama is committed to fixing the trenches in 2026. Beyond the re-signing of Michael Carroll and commitment from Kaden Strayhorn along the offensive line, Devan Thompkins and now Bingley-Jones have been added to the defensive line. Oh, and there are still five days of portaling left.
For more on Bingley-Jones, here is Adam Holt of A to Z Sports College Football.
“Bingley-Jones can provide experienced depth on the interior for the Crimson Tide. While he wasn’t a splash player for the Bulldogs’ defense, he consistently provided a baseline for play and some leadership for the unit as well. He won’t blow anybody away with his pass-rushing prowess, but he came up with some run stops weekly for State’s defense in 2025.
“Keeping Bingley-Jones in the SEC is a bit of a surprise, simply because he could probably play a larger role (even than he did at Mississippi State) elsewhere, either in the G5 or a conference with less proven trench talent than the SEC. Regardless, the Tide’s staff will never have to worry about his effort or motor to try to make plays in the run game. We’ll see how big a role he can push for in 2026, as Mississippi State rebuilds its defensive line, nearly as a whole.”
