The Alabama Crimson Tide received one of the biggest surprises of the transfer portal when not just one, but both of its starting safeties from the 2025 season returned. Bray Hubbard, who has been sidelined this spring with an injury, and Keon Sabb form one of the best duos not only in the SEC, but in the entire country.
This is why the decision from Hubbard and Sabb was a welcome one, yet questioned. Well, Sabb revealed what made him decide to return to Alabama following spring practice on Monday.
Why Keon Sabb returned to Alabama
“It was very important for me to get the opportunity to play a full season healthy,” Sabb said on Monday via the Alabama YouTube channel. “That was important to me. I feel really good. Obviously, continuing to get through the spring, season, camp, and stuff like that is important for me.”
Sabb dealt with lingering injuries throughout his 2024 and 2025 campaign at the Capstone, but when on the field, his ball-hawking nature and savvy instincts can take over a game. He’s a true post player who can play on the roof of a defense. He pairs perfectly with the downhill thumper that is Hubbard, who Sabb said he’s glad to be back with in 2026.
How Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard feed off one another
“It’s amazing,” Sabb said of having Hubbard back with him. “Me and him just built a really good bond on the field. I know where he’s going to be, he knows where I’m going to be. Just looking forward to getting back out there.”
Beyond the relationship with his partner in crime, there is one more thing that Sabb is chasing. A feeling he knows very well, but one that has evaded the University of Alabama for over half a decade at this point.
“Win a National Championship,” Sabb said on what is left to accomplish. “I won one already [at Michigan in 2023]. I’m trying to win my second now. We’ve got the talent and stuff to do it, so I’m looking forward to it.”
