The Alabama Crimson Tide is starting its final week of spring camp this week. Come Saturday, the public and all of the fans who bleed Crimson and White will be exposed to the newest version of the football team at the capstone.

We have already gathered information on two scrimmages, but A-Day will be the biggest reveal of what’s to come when fall camp and ultimately the 2026 season roll around. Well, while the Alabama Crimson Tide returns arguably the best safety duo in the country via Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb, it’s the safety waiting in the wings who is turning heads in Tuscaloosa.

Ivan Taylor is impressing in spring practice

“Ivan Taylor has stepped up a lot,” Keon Sabb told the media. “Zay Mincey has stepped up. Rihyael (Kelley) and Jireh Edwards as well. We’ve got some young guys playing a lot of snaps right now. Ivan is just continuing to get better every day. He’s a guy who keys into any little detail. When you see that from a young guy, it’s really important.”

“Proving to your teammates that you can do what you’re supposed to every snap,” Sabb added on Taylor. “Not being amazing on one play and being decent on another. Being able to be consistent throughout the entire game.”

How Ivan Taylor is making the most of his reps

A source close to Taylor confirmed that he has been having an excellent camp, and while he’s not yet a household name, he could be soon. Taylor is the son of Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion Ike Taylor.

With Bray Hubbard out for spring due to injury, the onus has fallen on the younger players to step up in his absence. Taylor has been integral in that process, and I would expect to see more from him this season.

Last year was largely devoted to special teams for Taylor. He could have opted to transfer when the 2025 safety duo decided to return to Tuscaloosa, but he’s taking the wise path of sitting, learning, and ultimately, gaining knowledge for what should become a terrific opportunity.
