‘Let him rumble’: Kalen DeBoer won’t stop giving Kadyn Proctor more touches

It’s not often you see a 366-pound offensive tackle catching passes and taking handoffs, but the Alabama Crimson Tide are having fun on offense. After enduring a painful 2024 season where quarterback Jalen Milroe had to do everything for the unit, this year’s version of the Tide is coming into its own. Head coach Kalen DeBoer is having fun again, and his usage of Kadyn Proctor highlights that.

One week after Proctor caught a screen pass for 11 yards against Georgia, the Crimson Tide went back to the massive 6-foot-7 blocker again. This week against Vandy, Proctor took one handoff for two yards. It wasn’t groundbreaking, but it was shocking to see.

DeBoer made sure to comment on Proctor’s usage against Vanderbilt, and his response was quite funny.

Kalen DeBoer continues to give Kadyn Proctor touches

DeBoer’s mindset on the ever-evolving usage of Proctor was pretty simple to understand: “Just give it to the big man and let him rumble,” he said after Alabama defeated the Commodores, 30-14. The win was a landmark accomplishment after the Tide was embarrassed in its loss to Vandy last year.

Proctor, of course, was also part of a major run game emergence. Alabama watched Jam Miller hit 136 total rushing yards with a 6.2-yard average. DeBoer loved seeing this part of the offense finally work.

“It takes a lot of pressure off the play calling and Ty too … good to see Jam out there doing his thing.”

Finally, DeBoer touched on the next step in the offense: “Just keep getting better in all the things … the run game, finishing drives …. also understanding what our strengths are.”
