Alabama’s X-factor on offense may have been revealed just in time for the push toward the College Football Playoff
A big development for Alabama’s offense.
While the Alabama Crimson Tide’s defense pitched a masterclass against LSU on Saturday, the same couldn’t be said for the other side of the ball. It was one of the more inconsistent showings for Alabama’s offense, and the only thing that remained constant was the struggles in the run game.
But a win is a win, and Alabama heads into a massive showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners having taken care of business and avoided the interim coach bump that the LSU Tigers appeared to have for most of the first half.
And within that came the best game of a young freshman’s career— a freshman who could prove useful going forward.
Lotzeir Brooks has a career game in Alabama’s win vs. LSU
The true freshman from New Jersey, Lotzeir Brooks, caught four passes for 68 yards. A total that set a new career record for the talented speedster. And it feels safe to say that his new yardage total won’t be like that for long.
“I think that throw to Lottie (Lotzeir Brooks] at the end of the half was, it was huge, you know, again, some momentum going to the locker room,” said HC Kalen DeBoer regarding Brooks after the game, via Alabama’s YouTube. “We knew they were going to get the ball to start third quarter. Really, no time outs for us, and [so we had to] go down the field that quickly.
“Ty and Lottie seem to hook up when we’re the most covered. And so that’s a great play by those guys. And then again, throw to Ty, you know, for the touchdown there at the end of the half, it was huge, too. So, Lottie, you know, there’s a tackle he broke I saw at the end of the game. “You all saw it, and you can [tell he] just has that knack with the ball in his hands, and he adds an element of explosiveness.”
When the top three WRs on a team (in no particular order) are Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, and Isaiah Horton, you will have to make the most of your opportunities. That’s especially true if you’re a freshman.
That’s the exact situation that Alabama finds itself in with Brooks, yet the team can’t keep him off the field. Special teams, as a WR, I mean, he even had a carry against the Tigers. He’s that dynamic and that problematic for defenses, and his usage needs to be a staple.
