Alabama is getting ready to travel down to Tallahassee to play Florida State in the season opener next Saturday. This will be the first time these two programs have met since 2017 with the meeting before that taking place all the way back in 2007. Below, we take a quick look at the history between the Crimson Tide and the Seminoles, which has been going on for 60 years now.

Alabama vs. Florida State

  • Alabama Dominates: The two programs have met five times, dating all the way back to 1965. The Crimson Tide are 3-1-1 against the Seminoles with the last win coming eight years ago when Alabama blew out Florida State 24-7 for the 2017 Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Ga. The run defense was dominate, holding Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick to just 47 rushing yards on 16 carries (a 2.9-yard average).
  • Largest Margin of Victory:  Alabama winning 24-7 back in 2017 was certainly impressive, but it actually wasn’t the largest margin of victory for this series. Instead, that achievement belongs to the first matchup, which took place in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 23, 1965. UA won that homecoming game 21-0 with three rushing touchdowns. Leslie Kelley had two while quarterback Steve Sloan scored the other.
  • Alabama’s Only Loss: Alabama has tied with Florida State before. That result came back in 1967 when the final score showed 37-37 at Legion Field in Birmingham. But the only time UA lost came during Nick Saban’s first season in 2007. The team traveled to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on the Seminoles, but ultimately fell short (21-14) after clawing back from a 14-0 deficit. Quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for 240 yards and two scores in that game, but he only averaged 4.5 yards per attempt while throwing 53 times. FSU had to vacate that win though.
