SEC Media Days got off to a hot start this year when rumors began circulating that former Alabama head coach Nick Saban could return to coaching, but those turned out to be just that — rumors.

On Thursday, Saban's daughter, Kristen, had posted an old video to her Instagram story of Saban taking the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium with his players prior to one of Alabama's games. The caption read, "Alabama's walkout," with her reply saying, "damn, I miss this."

Story posted to Kristen Saban’s Instagram on Thursday.

This post must've led to some speculation from Crimson Tide faithful as to whether it could be a sign of things to come for the legendary head coach. That speculation was soon put to bed, as Kristen posted another story soon after to clear things up.

“Apparently some of y'all feel trolled by my last story of nick’s walkout," she said in the post. "He’s not coming back to coaching. Hate to break it to you. You had your time.”

Saban elected to hang it up following the 2023 season with Kalen DeBoer taking over in Tuscaloosa. The six-time national championship-winning head coach has kept busy with new TV gigs that includes College GameDay on ESPN, NFL draft coverage and a whole lot more.

It has seemed like he's been enjoying his time away from coaching, but that didn't stop rumors from getting started to kick off SEC Media Days earlier this week. During his weekday radio show, former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy asked Paul Finebaum his opinion on a possible return after hearing from a source that Saban was considering a return.

“This is a little bit out of left field, but the question was asked of me … a very much in the know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around and just really, really admire,” McElroy said on his radio show, McElroy and Cube in the Morning. “They seem to think Nick Saban’s not done coaching. I had a similar reaction. He’s pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again. … Look, if it wasn’t someone notable, I’d never say a word.”

Of course, that statement immediately started a rumor that quickly caught fire despite McElroy clarifying that he didn't think Saban would actually return to coaching. So when some fans say Kristen's initial story, the possibility only grew in their minds. Now, those rumors can officially be put to rest.

Saban is happy with his current situation, and Alabama remains in good shape with DeBoer now entering his second season in charge. According to FanDuel, the Crimson Tide currently have the fourth-best odds (+1100) to win the national title, sitting behind Texas (+550), Georgia and Ohio State (both +600).
