The Alabama Crimson Tide is singularly focused on winning a national championship for the 2025/2026 season. Come next Friday, Alabama will kick off the College Football Playoff with a rematch against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Just when you thought this week would be the calm before the storm for Alabama, the Michigan Wolverines flipped the sport on its head following the shocking firing of HC Sherrone Moore. Right after, Kalen DeBoer’s name was mentioned atop the list of potential suitors. While we await his words on the matter, his players, including star WR Ryan Williams, are revealing how everyone is handling the dialogue in Tuscaloosa.

Ryan Williams sees the same Kalen DeBoer despite Michigan rumors

“At the end of the day, he serves us 100 percent. That’s our coach, so we’re going to play for him. External noise is external noise, so at the end of the day, so we’re just focused on the internal voices,” said Williams via the Bama Central YouTube channel. “We’re not really worried about it.”

If you haven’t followed the coaching carousel in college football this season, then you’re probably wondering why Kalen DeBoer’s name was even mentioned among the candidates to take over at Michigan.

Well, that’s because it all started with Penn State. There was a lot of talk that if Alabama lost the Iron Bowl, Penn State would have come calling, and Coach DeBoer, after back-to-back seasons of missing the College Football Playoff, would be on his way to Happy Valley.

Now, following what was a totally uncompetitive showing against the Bulldogs in Atlanta, many have tied DeBoer’s name to Michigan should Alabama lose yet again to Oklahoma, ending the season one-and-done after such a strong middle portion. It should be noted however, that nothing from Kalen DeBoer’s has indicated a desire to leave Alabama, or at least, not yet.

Would Kalen DeBoer leave Alabama for Michigan?

“The conversation about this [coaching search] is going to start with Kalen DeBoer of Alabama,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel said on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. “Whether he wants to go, whether Michigan can get him, whether the timing could work, would remain to be seen. I would be skeptical that Kalen DeBoer could navigate the high wire to leave in the middle of the playoff, and also, no one has indicated that he would be interested either. So, I would expect some clarity on that soon, just because the second this job opened, his name was the first to emerge.”

So I doubt we hear much from DeBoer or anyone else for that matter until after the Oklahoma game, but until Alabama is either hoisting the national championship or Michigan hires someone else, this story isn’t going anywhere.
