Heading into his scheduled trip to Alabama on May 31, Chuck McDonald had intentions to visit Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and USC before finalizing his college decision. However, there's a common belief in recruiting that once you're certain, you simply know, and for McDonald, his certainty came while he was in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama Lands 4-Star Commitment in Chuck McDonald

After a few days of contemplation, McDonald made his decision official on Wednesday, June 5. He informed Georgia that he would no longer be visiting them that weekend and also communicated his decision to Alabama.

Ranked as the No. 82 prospect across industry boards, McDonald formally committed to Alabama, elevating the Crimson Tide to the forefront of his options after his visit.

Prior to this official visit, McDonald's only other visit to Tuscaloosa was during Nick Saban's tenure as head coach. But once Kalen DeBoer assumed the role and assembled his staff, Alabama intensified its recruitment of McDonald.

McDonald is eager to work with Maurice Linguist over the next few years, as he played a key role in his recruitment.

McDonald was candid in his praise for Alabama after Nick Saban retired, telling On3:

“Going into the Alabama visit, they were toward the bottom of my list. I was going on the visit to just hear them out and see what it was like. After the visit, Alabama moved to the top, and I don’t think anyone could top that.

The visit changed everything for me. I didn’t know what to expect, but I liked everything about it. The visit couldn’t have gone any better. I knew when I got there that it felt right, and when I left, I knew Alabama was the top school.

“The coaches, their experience, the culture and the environment there were some of the reasons I picked Alabama. It is different there. Alabama has that winning culture, and they are going to keep that same standard.”

Coach DeBoer did what he did at Washington and he is just a winner. He will do good with all the resources at Alabama. To me, Coach DeBoer is going to win at every level. He is going to be great at Alabama and he will do great things there.”

Alabama managed to change the narrative, securing the commitment of the nation's No. 9 cornerback after only 48 hours on their campus, which moved them from a lesser position on his list to his top choice. McDonald is looking forward to his future with the Crimson Tide.

McDonald has emerged as the first corner to be named in the 2025 class by DeBoer for Alabama. This addition marks another notable defensive talent joining the ranks in Tuscaloosa.
