The Alabama Crimson Tide is riding high as quarterback Ty Simpson and Kalen DeBoer pull the strings to a terrific offense. Simpson is eyeing the Heisman Trophy and a National Championship run, and DeBoer is converting his on-field success to off-the-field efforts. It helps having the fourth-ranked team in the nation.
What DeBoer must fix in the future is the running game. Even after turning to Daniel Hill this past week and seeing an immediate boost, the days of Nick Saban’s mammoth run games that carried the program to several titles are long gone. Alabama needs more trench talent and superstar options in the backfield.
2027 running back Andrew Beard might be the right guy for the role when he comes to college. The four-star 190-pounder is electric, and the Georgia product has Alabama rising.
4-star running back Andrew Beard has Alabama rising in recruiting ranks
Beard has trimmed his list down to five schools, and he’s made it clear that Georgia and Oklahoma are attractive to him. But the race isn’t over, and DeBoer is making a late chase for him. Here’s what Beard told On3 this week.
“Alabama kinda started recruiting me later than the rest. But after the Tennessee game and seeing how explosive their offense is in person, it really entices me on possibly playing for the Tide. The tradition they have is really unmatched.”
While the other two schools have been chasing Beard longer and he values that, there’s no doubt Alabama actually fits what he’s wanting in a school. He’d be a great compliment to Alabama’s current core of backs.
“The deciding factor for me is how they play the running back along with the relationship I build with the coaches. I don’t want to go to a program where I will be used as a power back. I want to go somewhere where they use me to my full potential and I can show what I do. The coach’s relationship is also big for me. I want to go to a program that develops players not only on the field but off the field as well.”
Beard is a Georgia legacy because his uncle, Garrison Hearst, was a great star in college and the NFL. His father, Jerry Beard Sr., played running back at Appalachian State from 2000-2002.
