Alabama QB Ty Simpson’s play over the last four games has him in pole position for an award that seemed impossible after Week 1
Ty Simpson and the Alabama Crimson Tide have a shot to do something no one saw coming.
No one, including the No. 1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, has the resume over the past month that the Alabama Crimson Tide does. It started by beating the Georgia Bulldogs between the hedges, handing the Dogs the first loss in Athens since the pandemic.
Alabama followed it up with a revenge game against Vanderbilt, stoning the best rushing attack in the country at Missouri, and beating the Tennessee Volunteers by two scores. None of that would be possible if not for the play of Ty Simpson.
And now, the sportsbooks are starting to recognize that.
Multiple sportsbooks begin to favor Alabama QB Ty Simpson to win 2025 Heisman Trophy
There is still a lot of football left. Week 8 just passed, and we have 5-6 more weeks of games to determine not only the Heisman Trophy winner, but the seeding within the College Football Playoff. But in Tuscaloosa, those two are not mutually exclusive.
Because after Alabama’s win over Tennessee, Ty Simpson is now favored to win the Heisman outright on BetMGM and FanDuel, while he holds co-favorite odds on Caesar’s Sportsbook. It’s a testament to what he has done since Week 1, where it seemed like he was more likely to be benched before Halloween, than to be favored to win the Heisman.
“There’s things that he can keep getting better at, just staying within himself,” said Coach DeBoer of Simpson after the Missouri game. That’s really the key for him. It’s just stay within himself, not trying to do too much. He does that. He stacks plays, he stacks first downs, and sooner or later, we end up in the end zone. So I think there’s still a lot of room for improvement. The sky is the limit for him.”
To win the Heisman, you need to be buttoned up. You’re team has to be competitive, your individual stats need to be impressive if not gaudy, and above all else, you need a Heisman moment, or a few of them.
So far, Alabama has made history following its win over Tennessee. Simpson’s stats rival those of any signal caller in the country, and he’s made more than a few plays worthy of being Heisman moments.
So there are two directions for Simpson and the Tide. Keep your foot on the gas and take care of business the rest of the way, starting with a trap game this week against South Carolina, or falter to one of the five inferior opponents down the stretch of the season.
If Ty Simpson has shown anything thus far, it’s that betting on the latter would be a risky proposition.
