Ty Simpson’s reaction to being a Heisman Trophy favorite shows exactly why Alabama named him the starting quarterback
It’s exactly what Alabama was hoping for at QB.
If Alabama Crimson Tide QB Ty Simpson has shown anything thus far, it’s that all he cares about is winning. You can tell by the way he interacts with his teammates on the sidelines, his reactions to scoring plays, and his ability to bounce back after games like FSU.
But what the fans and media don’t see, is his everyday process. The way he carries himself and goes about his work when the cameras are off and the microphones are stored away. Being a Heisman Trophy frontrunner comes with a lot.
But according to head coach Kalen DeBoer, Simpson couldn’t care less.
Ty Simpson, Alabama, ignoring the Heisman Trophy Discussion
“Yeah, I mean, in our in our building, he’s not bringing it up,” said DeBoer during Wednesday’s SEC media call. “Our coaches aren’t bringing it up. Everyone knows, I think that individual accolades come along when your team is successful, and especially when you’re the quarterback. If you’re winning football games, and with our system revolving around a lot of what the quarterback can do, that will take care of itself if we continue to win.”
“I think that’s the way Ty has approached it. You know, he’s gonna get asked questions about it here and there, but I really appreciate where his headspace is… Focusing on the team.”
Not for one second have I come to expect anything less than Simpson, but it was still good to hear those words from coach DeBoer. Simpson is a player who has waited in line. Who has seen good and bad QB play, been in multiple systems, and been through painful losses.
You can tell by the way Simpson plays that all he cares about is winning. His lone flaw this season has been what? Holding onto the ball too long and taking unnecessary sacks. You know why? Because he’s always looking for an edge, always waiting for the last second to see if a pass catcher can beak free or if he can use his legs to pick up some yards.
You can see his team first dynamic in the way he hypes his team up before the game, or how he keeps his offensive line and WRs heads held high after a mistake. He’s a selfless leader and signal caller, and he’s showing why 2025 was always going to be his year in crimson and white.
