The Alabama Crimson Tide’s season didn’t finish how it hoped, and it has to return to its winning ways in 2026 with a lot of pressure to do so.

The roster underwent a lot of changes with key departures and also multiple additions that could be upgrades across a handful of positions. Everyone has talked about the roster moves from the transfer portal recently, and understandably so, but the incoming freshman class can have just as much of an impact.

One freshman is looking to give the offense a boost that’s been missing, and he’s already making a strong impression on head coach Kalen Deboer.

Kalen DeBoer is already impressed by WR Cederian Morgan

The Crimson Tide had the No. 5 overall 2026 recruiting class according to Rivals’ rankings, and it was because of players like WR Cederian Morgan. Morgan finished as the No. 5 wide receiver prospect in his class and the No. 48 overall player in 2026. He showed up to Alabama early, as they prepped for the College Football Playoff, and he wasted no time impressing DeBoer and others.

DeBoer spoke to the media recently about Morgan’s first impressions, and fans should be excited about what’s to come for the Crimson Tide freshman.

“I did get a chance to see him a little bit more, just because he was practicing with us before we went on our bowl games and our playoff games, and so really impressed with him,” DeBoer said. “Moves extremely well, very fluid. Big hands, catches the ball, very strong at the point of attack, with the ball. I know a lot of guys, players included, were impressed with what they saw just in a couple of practices that he was with us.”

What makes Cederian Morgan special

Morgan earned his high recruiting ranking because of his work in high school, but also because of how he projects at the next level. He’s already 6-4, 220 pounds as a true freshman, with even more room to grow and develop. Morgan isn’t just all size; however, he can actually get separation and make a big play after the catch as well.

Make no mistake about it, though, Morgan will dominate defenders at the catch point and use his big frame to fight through contact. Smaller defensive backs will have nightmares about having to cover him in space, and even as a bigger red zone threat. Isaiah Horton was Alabama’s only bigger-bodied wide receiver last season, and he transferred to Texas A&M, so it desperately needed a replacement.

Morgan will be hard to keep off the field, which is great because they also struggled in the passing game way too often when Ryan Williams went into a slump, and needed more dependability on offense. Fans will have high expectations for Morgan, and the early consensus is that he will live up to those expectations.
