The Auburn Tigers have continued to recruit well since the addition of head coach Alex Golesh. Hugh Freeze recruited pretty well, but couldn’t win games on the field. So far, Golesh is doing one of those well, while the other will be found out in months’ time.

Auburn’s 2026 class is 40th in the country. Some of that is due to the hit it took when Freeze left. Golesh also brought in some G5 players. The 2027 class has just one commit in Tank Proctor, who’s not yet ranked by Rivals. Auburn seems to be in every race for some of the best four-star players. Now, they’re competing for four-star CB Jaden Carey to get the ball rolling on their 2027 recruiting class.

Carey is a 6’0, 170-pound cornerback with great length and size. He has a ton of potential and will only get better. The Tigers, who have no cornerbacks coming in from their 2026 high school recruiting class, need a few CBs in their 2027 class. So, they could really use this win, despite having four CBs join them from the transfer portal. The only thing is, other elite programs, like Carey, are known as blue bloods, too.

Tigers are battling with blue bloods for Carey

The Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ole Miss Rebels, Oregon Ducks, and Miami Hurricanes are all fighting for him. They all made his top-seven list. However, one school is currently making the biggest impact, and it’s not Auburn.

“They definitely sit at the top end of my list,” Carey recently told CaneSport regarding the runners-up in the National Championship. “Because they’ve been doing a great job. I mean, just with the one visit, just showing me how much of a family atmosphere they have and showing how much they want me to be a Gator and be a part of what they’re building there. It’s really special.”

Auburn has sent offers to 37 CBs in the 2027 class. Of those players, only five currently have projections that have Auburn as the favorite. Rivals does not have Auburn projected to finish within the top five for Carey.

“It’s just the intensity, especially what their defense plays with,” Carey said regarding Miami. “Their DC (Corey Hetherman) is doing amazing over there. Coach Cristobal is having those guys fired up and playing just lights-out football. You love to see that as a defensive player.”

Auburn may need to make further efforts in recruitment. While Auburn remains a candidate for Carey, current indications show they are not leading in his recruitment.
