Until recently, there was still quite a bit of hope from outsiders as to whether the Ohio State Buckeyes could pair five-star Bralan Womack with their existing excellent 2026 defensive back commits. The Mississippi product has been highly regarded heading into his Aug. 21 decision date, with no shortage of offers from every top program. Texas A&M and Florida have been holding on to a sliver of hope, too.
The top safety in the nation appears to be staying in the south, though. The Auburn Tigers have been viewed as the Buckeyes’ biggest threat for good reason. Womack is now expected to commit to Hugh Freeze’s Tigers later this week.
The Buckeyes never stopped trying despite Freeze and company giving Womack a tremendous final visit. Ohio State recruiting insider Jeremy Birmingham reported that the Buckeyes got head coach Ryan Day involved and upped their financial offer on the Austin & Birm show. But it didn’t matter, and On3 reported that it seems only Florida still has a pulse besides Auburn.
The nation’s 21st-ranked prospect has been incredibly complimentary of Freeze and his Tigers since his recruitment process started off.
“Before the OVs we called all the coaches and told them this is the last visit, this is the last show,” Womack recently said. “I really feel Auburn took advantage of it. They laid out everything and we left with no questions. If football ended today that would be a place you can go and build a family, start a new life outside of football.
”Just being part of what they’re building. Coach (Hugh) Freeze, I’m a true believer if you start with a good foundation you can build anything. He took the job and said give him three to four recruiting classes and this is a dynasty building. That’s what he’s done, two top-10 classes. Who wouldn’t want to be part of a dynasty that’s being built? A lot of people go to Bama and these places you’re just another guy. You can be part of something being built from the ground level.”
