It’s two weeks in a row now that the Auburn Tigers’ offense has looked absolutely putrid. They have scored a combined 27 points in the last two weeks. Last week, it was against the Oklahoma Sooners, the best defense in football, so it was somewhat understandable.

This week, they lost to Texas A&M, a team whose defense had not been playing well until this game. The offense has to be better if the Tigers want to win an SEC game, and they all know that, too.

“Offensively, that was unacceptable,” head coach Hugh Freeze told reporters after the game as he sat next to QB Jackson Arnold. “Our defense played their tails off, well enough to win the game. We have two weeks to prepare for Georgia, and we’ll take that time to reevaluate everything related to our offense.”

It sounds like Freeze could be contemplating a QB change for the offense.

Jackson Arnold hasn’t been good enough, but neither has the offensive line

Just like last year with the Sooners, it’s not all Arnold’s fault that the offense has been bad. However, he is certainly not making things easier. The offensive line isn’t playing well, and Arnold is taking a ton of sacks, but he is causing some of them. He’s got to get rid of the ball sometimes, and quick, too.

It sounds like Freeze could be considering making a change to true freshman quarterback Deuce Knight, which would be the second year in a row that Arnold lost his starting job to a true freshman. Last year, he lost it to Michael Hawkins, who is the Sooners’ backup quarterback again this season.

The thing is, Arnold and the offense should be playing better, especially in the passing game. They have two of the best wide receivers in the country in Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton, yet the pass game is terrible.

So, it will be interesting to see what Auburn does over this break.
