Recruiting is crazier than it has ever been in college football and a battle for a player can go a different way at any given time.
Ohio State has crushed it on the recruiting trail this class but still has a big need to fill and that is a tackle to complement Carter Lowe along the offensive line.
The Buckeyes’ top target is no other than five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. Sanders is an elite tackle prospect out of Providence Day School in Charlotte North Carolina.
Sanders will begin his official visit to Columbus on Friday, June 21, and the Buckeyes will be rolling out the red carpet. Current commits Tavien St. Clair, Na’eem Offord, and Devin Sanchez are all five-star recruits who will be in town taking their officials as well. Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. is rumored to possibly be in town, as the two have a close relationship and Ohio State could be looking to pull out all cards.
Early on, Clemson looked to be the team to land Sanders but the battle appears to have shifted more to Ohio State and Tennessee. Sanders visited the Vols last weekend. The Buckeyes are in a good spot with the fact that their official visit is his last official scheduled.
Justin Frye and the Buckeyes missed out on Jackson Lloyd, who committed to Alabama a few days ago, so now their attention has to be all in on landing Sanders. The top recruit at offensive tackle in the country would be a big win for Frye, who needs it as a recruiter. Since taking over the offensive line in Columbus, Frye has struggled to consistently recruit at the high knees that his peers do.
The recruitment for Sanders has overall been a quiet one. He and his family have kept things close and there may not be a clear favorite with a gap. Sanders does not have a commitment date set. Ohio State getting the final visit and a chance to make a final push with momentum is huge.
All cards have to be in for Ohio State this weekend with what is their biggest recurring weekend of the summer.
