The Miami Hurricanes are state champions for the second straight season after defeating the Florida State Seminoles 28-22 on Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium. Miami completed its in-state gauntlet, having already defeated Florida and USF handily earlier this season.

In claiming that second-straight Sunshine State crown, the Hurricanes’ signal caller achieved a special mark that had not been done in over 20 years. Per the Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds, Carson Beck improved to 5-0 in his career against both Florida State and Florida, becoming the first QB to do that since former Hurricanes signal caller Brock Berlin.

Beck didn’t have the greatest game in Miami’s physical 26-7 win over Florida, to put it mildly. He was 17/30 for 160 yards and an interception as Miami’s passing game sputtered for stretches against the Gators.

But he had arguably his best game against the Seminoles on Saturday night. He was 20/27 passing for 241 yards with 4 touchdowns. Where Miami’s deep passing attack hadn’t really been the calling card of the offense through five games, the Canes hit some big shots deep down the field, including a 47-yard completion to CJ Daniels and a 44-yard touchdown in stride to Malachi Toney.

Beck also had both schools’ number before coming to Coral Gables this offseason. He authored a 63-3 win over the Seminoles in the 2023 Orange Bowl when he was at Georgia. He also swept the Gators in 2023 and 2024 as the Dawgs’ starting quarterback, throwing for over 300 yards with multiple touchdowns in wins over Florida in both years.

Beating Florida and Florida State is a primary goal for Miami every time they square off, and few have ever done it better than Beck.
