The Deion Sanders experiment at Colorado is quickly beginning to look like an utter failure. A 1-8 finish in the final nine games of last season. Completely ignoring freshman recruiting two cycles in a row. Refusing to travel to make recruiting visits, making that accentuating the issue there. Ripping apart the entire roster, trying to rebuild it with a bunch of power conference backups and transfer mercenaries. And today, things took one more step in the wrong direction.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, five star cornerback Cormani McClain, the crown jewel of Deion Sanders' 2023 recruiting class, will be entering the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining. He will immediately be the most highly coveted player in the entire nation.

McClain played nearly 300 snaps for the Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders last season. Though there were some growing pains and a learning curve that caught him out of position in some key games, McClain flashed his elite talent, especially late in the season.

McClain will join around 30 other transfers who have decided to leave Colorado football this off-season. This massive turnover is becoming a trend for Deion Sanders and the Colorado program. And that's okay when the players leaving are minimal role players or backups with less than stellar talent. When they're Cormani McClain, former five star talents who are supposed to be the foundation the program? That's a huge problem.

This may just be the first giant domino that sparks the fall of the Colorado program and the Deion Sanders era there. Keep an eye on the transfer portal as the Buffaloes spring game approaches. If the best players are looking to leave more may just follow soon.
