The Clemson Tigers, led by head coach Dabo Swinney, did not conclude the season on a high note. They managed to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff as the No. 12 seed but were defeated by the No. 5 Texas Longhorns with a score of 38-24.
Now, it's time for the team to focus on building for the future, a process many programs are undertaking through the transfer portal.
Unfortunately, Swinney and the Tigers will have to fill the gap left by a key player, as sophomore defensive end A.J. Hoffler has announced his decision to transfer.
Hoffler has played over the past two seasons, contributing 16 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one pass deflection.
He was also highly regarded as a recruit out of high school, ranking as the No. 37 EDGE and No. 312 player in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports.
He had received offers from notable programs such as Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, and Ole Miss.
Fortunately for Clemson, the impact of Hoffler's departure is somewhat mitigated by the arrival of their first defensive transfer recruit during the Swinney era, Will Heldt.
Ranked as the No. 9 EDGE in the transfer portal by 247Sports, Heldt brings optimism to the team's defensive line.
