With week eight of college football officially in the books, the landscape is becoming clearer and clearer. We are now fully entrenched in conference matchups and that means teams are really going to start separating themselves. We saw that on the FCS level this week, and it is reflected in my updated Stats Perform FCS top 25 poll.

Following the previous week, I finally made the decision to move to Montana State to the top spot of the poll. Obviously, North Dakota State (who was previously my top team) is coming off of a massive victory over South Dakota State this weekend, but I held firm with that top two. Naturally, that order will continue to be debated for me the next couple of weeks, and I am interested to see if a hiccup does occur with either squad down the stretch of the regular season.

Outside of the debate in the top two, it’s not overly shocking that the Dakotas continue to dominate the top five, and even top ten with North Dakota in the standings. For me, team No. 6 through No. 10 get really tricky, and honestly there’s a couple different orders it could go. Right now, it seems like about three elite teams, a couple of very good ones, and a whole lot of question marks.

Here is my updated top 25 poll heading into week nine.

  2. North Dakota State
