The 2025 season is going to be a huge one for the Florida Gators. This could be the last ride for head coach Billy Napier, as many were clamoring for athletic director Scott Stricklin to fire him during the 2024 season.

Instead, Sticklin gave him a vote of confidence and the Gators won their final four games riding high into the offseason. The main reason why the Gators were so competitive and won those games? The emergence of quarterback DJ Lagway.

DJ Lagway the key to Gators' 2025 success

One of the easiest things an analyst can do is say that Lagway is important to the Gators' success the next 2-3 seasons. It's a different story to break it down.

ESPN's college football staff broke down different elements ahead of the 2025 season and Chris Low believes that Lagway is the biggest impact to a team on the rise.

There's no shortage of intriguing quarterbacks in the SEC, and Florida's DJ Lagway is right there at the top of the list. The bummer is that he's dealing with a shoulder problem and will miss spring practice. It's unclear how much he will throw at all this spring, but he's the heartbeat of a Florida team that came alive during the second half of last season under Billy Napier. The true sophomore can do a little bit of everything, and if healthy, has what it takes to carry a football team on his shoulders.

It's easy to see why Lagway is one of the best young players in college football. His rocket arm paired with size and athleticism makes him a top candidate for the Heisman Trophy.

What Low mentions is the key thing about this: his shoulder injury. Ahead of the first spring practice, Napier mentioned that Lagway was dealing with a shoulder injury and would be limited in spring practice. That's a major concern for all parties involved, especially since this injury has reportedly lingered for a while.

Everything for the Gators revolved around Lagway's health but if he's healthy, the SEC and nation need to watch out.
