The Orange & Blue spring game for the Florida Gators had a lot positivity. Quarterback DJ Lagway is going to start throwing again in a couple of weeks, it was the highest spring game attendance since Tim Tebow and the emergence of true freshman Dallas Wilson.
Dallas Wilson is the superstar Florida Gators need
The biggest thing from the spring game was the emergence of Wilson. The Gators stole his commitment from the Oregon Ducks right before Christmas and he was arguably the best player throughout the entirety of the game.
His performance is catching national attention, as On3 Sports' JD Pickell talked about how good his performance was with the caveat that nobody on campus was surprised.
"Dallas Wilson, dude, 10 catches a buck 95, he's he's different now. He's different right around six foot 3, 209, and the most interesting part around his record setting day. Apparently, this was spring game records with Dallas Wilson. The most interesting part about his day was it didn't seem to surprise anyone internally at Florida. Billy Napier's, like, yeah, we pretty much saw that all spring the quarterbacks that he was working with, yeah, when we found out that the game was getting split up the way that it was. I told him, 'Hey, we're gonna get right around 200 yards, 10 catches'=,' like they had seen him do this for a minute now. So for it to not be surprising, means it's consistent, means it's real, means it's happening behind closed doors. You saw it in the spring game Dallas, Wilson is going to be an absolute dog for them this year. Go ahead and take that to the bank.
"You pair that with what else you have on this roster with a J. Michael Sturdivant event. We keep saying this, it's all about matching out DJ lagwant Now DJ lagways got to get back healthy and progress and all those things get on the same page with Dallas Wilson, but just to have that on your roster to know that you don't need to go to the portal because of what you got that first time around, and because of who your freshman receivers are. Florida's in good spot."
It was a coup when the Gators secured Wilson from the Ducks and fortified a top-10 recruiting class. The Gators have had some good receivers, but nobody has been on this level as a true freshman since Percy Harvin stepped on campus. The Gators won two National Championships with Harvin. Can Wilson have that same kind of impact?
Right now, things are looking great for the Gators, and Napier's plan seems to be working.
