Injuries have been a theme for the Florida Gators over the last six months. Quarterback DJ Lagway has been the biggest discussion point when it comes to injuries, as he’s dealt with a multitude of them this offseason. However, Lagway is back to practicing and looks good throwing the football.
Dallas Wilson to miss 2 weeks with lower leg injury
Unfortunately, the injury bug has hit the wide receiver room. Eugene Wilson III and Aidan Mizell both suffered injuries during practice over the weekend, and emerging true freshman star Dallas Wilson suffered a lower leg injury himself. According to Zach Abolverdi of Gators Online, Wilson will be out for “a couple of weeks.”
It’s tough to have three of your top four wide receivers out, and that doesn’t include Kahleil Jackson, who suffered a torn ACL last season, and is still working his way back from that. The only projected starter at wide receiver who is healthy right now is J. Michael Sturdivant. However, there is a potential benefit for the Gators, as other players have the chance to step up and get crucial reps.
True freshman Vernell Brown III is going to be in a great spot to potentially get himself into a place where he can be a regular contributor, and Naeshaun Montgomery has impressed so far during fall camp. They aren’t the only new players who could make an impact for the Gators.
“But we really, if you think about it, there’s five new players in that room that all have a chance to help our team,” said head coach Billy Napier on July 29th. “J.Mike [Sturdivant] and Dallas [Wilson] and Vernell [Brown III], Naeshaun [Montgomery] and Muizz [Tounkara]. Muizz has had an outstanding summer. So, and look, this is about them developing confidence in themselves. Can we trust them as a coaching staff? Can their teammates trust them? And ultimately, they’re going to earn that on the practice field.”
There is often a bright side to injuries if you look hard enough, and the Gators could have that with their injured wide receivers.

The injury bug for the Florida Gators has been hitting them over the course of the last few months. Most of that has been focused on quarterback DJ Lagway, but it’s now gone to the running back room. Running back Treyaun Webb suffered an injury to his hamstring earlier this offseason, and a setback has […]
