The last few months have been quite the roller coaster for the Florida Gators football program. After a rough start with home blowout losses to Miami FL and Texas A&M, speculation was building about the future of Billy Napier.

Across the media sphere of college football, there was a heavy discussion about the potential firing of Napier. After a meeting with the players during the middle of the season, a switch flipped and the Gators finished red hot, including a 3-2 record against the insane gauntlet to finish the season.

Heading into early signing day, the Gators had a ton of momentum on the recruiting trail, including multiple four-star flips leading into the 11th-best class in the 2025 recruiting cycle. They were also trying to flip multiple five-star recruits, but they came up just short.

One of those players was wide receiver Dallas Wilson who went to high school in nearby Tampa Bay. After nearly flipping to Florida right before signing day, Wilson has reportedly asked to be released from his financial aid documents so he can sign with the Gators.

This is a huge win for the Gators, as Wilson is On3's number two ranked receiver prospect and 29th overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting cycle. It's a great win for Napier, especially since receiver is a position they haven't been able to recruit well at the high school level, instead leaning on the transfer portal.

The biggest draw in Gainesville is playing with superstar quarterback DJ Lagway, as Wilson does have a path to get on the field early on with Trey Wilson also coming back into the fold. His size and speed profile is one that Lagway and Napier will be able to maximize this season.

Wilson's addition to the recruiting class likely will vault the Gators into the top 10 and it's the first five-star recruit of the recruiting class.
