CFB analyst reveals why Lane Kiffin is more likely to choose the Florida Gators and it came straight from the governor’s office

It’s bad news for the Tigers, and good news for the Gators

The head coaching search for the Florida Gators is going to take most of the headlines over the next few weeks. Firing Billy Napier was the right choice for the Gators, but it comes with a bevy of challenges.

Not only are the Gators now tasked with finding a new head coach during the season, but interim head coach Billy Gonzales is trying to not only steady the ship but also win football games. It’s a difficult challenge for any interim coach, especially at a school like Florida.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s comments paint LSU in a poor light

For the most part, the Gators have done a good job staying off the grid outside of what’s going on with the on-field product, but that hasn’t stopped analysts from trying to project who will be the next head coach in Gainesville. On Wednesday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry made some explosive comments that had ESPN’s Peter Burns believing that LSU is off the table for Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin.

The full comments from Landry are explosive, but these are the ones that stand out.

“My role is about the fiscal effect of firing a coach under a terrible contract, said Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry. “I care about what the tax payers’ are on the hook for and I was not happy about raising ticket prices while we were having a losing season, and we were paying a coach $100M and not getting results.

“This is a pattern. The guy (Woodward) here now that wrote that contract cost A&M $77 million. Right now, we have a $53 million liability and we are not doing that again. Maybe we should let President Trump pick it. He loves winners.

“Yall reporters need to start looking at who represents these people. Woodward’s agent, Kelly’s agent… the Texas A&M (coach’s) agent. They all have the same agent. This is ridiculous. Lawyers would be disbarred the way these agents act. It’s time for the NCAA to put guardrails.”

When you go after high-profile agents, that’s a problem. The biggest agent in the college football coaching world is Jimmy Sexton. He respresents Kiffin, and other high-profile coaches like Kirby Smart and Kalen DeBoer. This isn’t going to help LSU hire a coach that will help them win another national championship.

This revelation is only going to be good for the Gators. With LSU seemingly out of the picture, the Gators only have to deal with Kiffin potentially staying at Ole Miss, and that is a tough enough challenge.

We have about five weeks left before the end of the regular season, and then we should have some clarity. Until then, buckle up.
