Florida vs Ole Miss Final Score Predictions: The result of this game could determine if Lane Kiffin becomes the next Gators head coach
This is a crucial game for both teams, but for much different reasons.
This is primed to be one of the biggest matchups of the weekend, and it has little to do with what happens on the field.
The Florida Gators fired head coach Billy Napier and have yet to win a game, going 0-2 since Billy Gonzales took over as interim head coach. Things are getting bad in Gainesville, and the result of this game could end up changing things for the better, or possibly worse.
Meanwhile, the Ole Miss Rebels are 9-1 with a chance to make the College Football Playoff. Head coach Lane Kiffin has done a great job with the Rebels, but he is currently being linked to the Gators’ head coaching job.
This could be the game that either prevents the Gators from bringing Kiffin to Gainesville or the one that keeps him in Oxford. Our staff got together to predict the game.
Florida Gators vs. Ole Miss Rebels History
- Florida Gators lead the series 13-12-1
- The Gators have won the last three games, including a 24-17 win last season in The Swamp to essentially knock the Rebels out of the College Football Playoff.
- A 31-30 win by the Rebels at The Swamp in 2008 prompted the famous “The Promise” speech from Tim Tebow, which sparked the National Championship run for Urban Meyer’s Gators.

This game looked like it was going to be critical for a potential College Football Playoff berth going into the season. Instead, it could be a determining factor if the Gators will potentially lure Lane Kiffin to be the next head coach in Gainesville. As things stand, the Gators have a brutal injury report that has seen star receivers Dallas Wilson and Tre Wilson be announced as out for the season with injuries. DJ Lagway got benched against Kentucky, and the issues he had in Lexington aren’t going to miraculously go away heading to The Grove. This could get ugly and fast, which could possibly force the Gators to look elsewhere for a head coach with an Ole Miss playoff run coming. – Tyler Forness, A to Z Florida
Ole Miss 31, Florida 17
The vibes around these two teams couldn’t be much more different at this point in the campaign. The Gators just got manhandled by Kentucky, while the Rebels look to lock in a CFP spot over the next two games. They’ve handled business regularly this year in games they’re expected to prevail in, and you can file this one under that tab as well. Amid all the speculation regarding Lane Kiffin’s future, it is still tough to project Florida to pull this one out, especially away from The Swamp. Give me Ole Miss in one where the Gators are playing for a bit of pride at this point. – Adam Holt, A to Z New Orleans
Ole Miss 40, Florida 13
Ole Miss has been on fire since their one bad quarter against the Georgia Bulldogs. They have scored 30+ points in four straight games as Trinidad Chambliss remains unstoppable at quarterback. The defense has been getting locked in thanks to huge performances from Suntarine Perkins and Princewill Umanmielen.
Meanwhile, the Florida Gators are on quit watch now. It’s been four straight games now with 23 or fewer points scored. The coach is fired. DJ Lagway was benched in the 38-7 loss to Kentucky. The wheels are coming off, and now they have to go on the road to face to the coach they’re hoping is their program’s savior. It’s a strange situation for the Gators, and Ole Miss needs to prove to the College Football Playoff committee they’re worthy of a bye. This one’s a blowout as Lane Kiffin runs up the score. – Travis May, A to Z CFB Managing Editor
Ole Miss 27, Florida 9
Two programs that are currently in very different states are at an interesting intersection. Ole Miss is coasting toward a College Football Playoff appearance, but Florida is actively hoping to lure Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin to its own opening. There might not be much Florida can do on the field to sway Kiffin, but the Gators will compete as well as they can despite being undermanned. Ole Miss has an unpredictable defense, but they’ll dominate the time of possession well enough and won’t be threatened by Florida backup QB Tramell Jones Jr’s passing ability enough to surrender more than one or two scores. – Ian Valentino, A to Z LSU
Final Prediction for Gators vs. Rebels
Our staff thinks this is a clean sweep, and it shouldn’t be much of a surprise with how both teams are playing. Combined, the prediction is 33-13.5, which doesn’t signal any kind of close game
