The Florida Gators have been discussing plans for months to renovate The Swamp. The idea is to make it more of a modern stadium.

Doing so would theoretically give the Gators more income from gamedays and create a better atmosphere for the fanbase. Initial projections were going to reduce capacity by over 4,000 seats for multiple reasons, with the main one being to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In speaking with the local media on Thursday, athletic director Scott Stricklin said that there won’t be a reduction in stadium capacity with renovations, according to Gators Online. Along with that piece of information, the planning is still going on.

Previously, the renovation planned to reduce capacity to 84,399. That projection was due to UF needing to comply with updated Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.

In order to avoid the loss of seats, Florida will spend more money on its renovation and add some sections throughout the stadium, including premium seating areas.

The planning process for the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium renovation is nearing completion. The University Athletic Association will announce details on the project by this summer.

The official budget and timeline for the stadium is still being determined, but construction for the multi-phase project will begin some time after the 2026 football season.

Fans had initially been frustrated that capacity would be decreased, and it could hinder the incredible atmosphere in Gainesville. Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The good news for fans is that they will be adding some premium seating areas to enhance the fan experience. The renovations won’t be done for some time, but they will end up improving the stadium overall.

There will be more information coming in the coming weeks, but this is a great start.
