The Florida Gators have had themselves a really good early National Signing Day.

Head coach Jon Sumrall has done a great job in stabilizing the recruiting class that Billy Napier put together, with only one of the 19 commitments choosing to withdraw, and that’s four-star running back Carsyn Baker. They started the day off strong by securing four-star edge rushers JaReylan McCoy and KJ Ford for new defensive coordinator Brad White.

The biggest question mark with this class has been on the offensive side, and they got their answer on Wednesday.

Elite WR Davian Groce officially signs with Florida Gators

Four-star wide receiver Davian Groce has been committed since Aug. 11 to the Gators, and he was the crown jewel of the recruiting class. There were a lot of questions about whether or not the Gators could hold onto Groce, who had serious and sustained interest from the Oklahoma Sooners, but he officially signed on Wednesday morning.

Where things were at Tuesday night with Groce was a shaky situation, but the Gators made it happen and secured his signature. If you want a Percy Harvin archetype player on the offense, he’s exactly what you want. A wide receiver by trade, he also plays running back and is explosive in both aspects.

The really intriguing aspect of Groce is his legitimate track speed. He won the 200-meter state championship in the Texas 5A track and field meet at 20.52 seconds. The long speed is really impressive, something the Gators could use a little bit more of.

Groce joins a room full of talented players, including Dallas Wilson, Tre Wilson, Vernell Brown III, and Aidan Mizell. If he thrives early on in spring practice like Wilson and Brown did last year, Groce could easily see the field as a true freshman and make a serious impact right away.

Sumrall landing Groce is huge for the immediate future of the Gators’ program, and it sets an important standard for where the recruiting will likely be moving forward.
