Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall came to Gainesville to help elevate the program back to its stature as one of the top ones in the country. The easiest way for him to do that was to elevate the recruiting.

Billy Napier had solid recruiting classes, but he barely got a top-10 class, let alone consistently landing top recruits. He only landed two recruits in the top 25 of their respective classes, both of which came in 2024: quarterback DJ Lagway and edge rusher LJ McCray.

After just a few months on the job, Sumrall is on the precipice of landing his first five-star recruit.

Gators receive another expert prediction to land five-star OL Maxwell Hiller

The Gators are in a great place when it comes to recruiting, and it’s getting better. Five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller is likely heading to Gainesville, as Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong put in an expert prediction on Saturday.

It’s not the first time he’s gotten an expert prediction to head to Gainesville. Gators Online’s Corey Bender (Mar. 12th) and Blake Alderman (Feb. 27th) both sent predictions for that to happen previously.

It would be huge for Hiller, who is now an 87.1% prediction to commit to the Gators. He is currently the fourth overall recruit nationally and the top interior offensive lineman per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking. His commitment would be mostly credited to offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, as he built up a great relationship with Hiller during his time at Penn State.

Hiller isn’t the only five-star recruit they are working on landing. Quarterback Elijah Haven has been in the crosshairs of the program since last summer when Napier made him a priority.

If the Gators close the deal, it would send a major signal to the rest of the country that they are officially back.
