Florida Gators Recruiting Superlatives: Jon Sumrall landed multiple playmakers for new OC Buster Faulkner
The Florida Gators’ offensive recruiting class is really impressive, and they can make a serious impact for Jon Sumrall.
The Florida Gators have signed 19 players during the early signing period, with 18 scholarship players and one priority walk-on in Corey Brown, who is the brother of Vernell Brown III. Head coach Jon Sumrall did a great job keeping this class together, and things are looking up for the Gators.
Looking at the class as a whole, many players can make an impact on this team. On offense, Sumrall hired Buster Faulkner to be his offensive coordinator, and some players can make an immediate and long-term impact for the Gators. Here are the biggest superlatives from the early signing period.
Note: Just because a recruit isn’t listed doesn’t mean they aren’t good or won’t be impactful.
Florida Gators Offensive Superlatives
Most Impactful: WR Davian Groce
This one is a no-brainer. Groce is the top recruit for the Gators, ranking 67th nationally and 10th at wide receiver. Where he thrives is with the ball in his hands. Groce has the skillset of Percy Harvin, and he never wavered on his commitment.
“It’s the Florida Gators. I feel like anybody they bring in will be worth hearing them out,” he said. “We’re talking about the Florida Gators, one of the greatest teams in college football for a while. I’m trusting them. I have a good relationship with everybody there, from the top to the bottom. I trust those guys 100 percent.”
He has legitimate home run ability from any spot on the field, something the Gators’ offense could utilize, with Dallas Wilson, Tre Wilson, and Brown being relatively versatile weapons on the outside and in the slot. There is a massive amount of potential with Groce, and Faulkner will have fun with him.
Biggest Upside: OT Chancellor Campbell
You don’t always see a ton of upside with three-star players, but offensive linemen often do because they need more physical development. One of those players is Campbell, who is a massive athlete with plus athleticism. You don’t usually get offensive tackles at 6-8, 295 pounds, but he looks every bit of a future left tackle.
The biggest thing with Campbell is that he needs time. Give him the necessary patience to learn how to use his excellent length and gain the proper muscle, and there is a ton of upside.
Immediate Impact Player: TE Heze Kent
Other than Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington, how many 300-pound players do you see at the position? Kent is exactly that, and he’s a tremendous athlete.
He might be best suited to move to offensive or defensive tackle, but he wants to play tight end. Having him in jumbo packages early could be an exciting way to take advantage of defenses, especially with the growth of 12- and 13-personnel formations in the NFL.
Underrated contributor: OT Tyler Chukuyem
We talked about Campbell earlier as a developmental offensive tackle, but Chukuyem is someone who can play earlier. The Gators found a way to hold off the Georgia Bulldogs for the four-star from Douglasville, Georgia, and the fanbase should be thrilled.
He’s a hyper-athletic tackle with great bend and explosion, which will go a long way to getting on the field early on. There’s a real chance Chukuyem is a multi-year starter for the Gators.
Best Playmaker: WR Justin Williams
One of the themes with the 2026 recruiting class was finding players who have a dual-threat ability with the ball in their hands. Like Groce, Williams also has a little bit of Harvin to his game, as he ran for 1,023 yards and 16 touchdowns, while catching 85 passes for 1,473 yards and 13 touchdowns locally in Gainesville.
Williams’ ability to attack in both ways helps alleviate the Gators’ loss of four-star running back Carsyn Baker to the Texas A&M Aggies. Having that ability is massive, and it will give Faulkner many interesting ways to attack opposing defenses, with players who can line up anywhere.
