Florida Gators take crucial step in recruiting and are predicted to land elite recruit who will maximize Jon Sumrall’s vision
This isn’t the Billy Napier era anymore.
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall knows exactly what to do to get the Florida Gators back to prominence, and it’s starting to happen. The Gators have received multiple expert predictions to land five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
The biggest reason for this prediction comes down to one thing: the relationship with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein. They have built a strong relationship dating back to his time with the Penn State Nittany Lions, and Hiller spoke on it recently.

It’s a two-fold mission for the Gators. Sumrall identified that the weight room needs to be a major focus for the program, as there were too many issues in the tranches under Napier. He made that identification pretty quickly, and he said so on The Triple Option.
“Where I feel like we’ve had to really push the envelope here in developing this team is in the weight room, doing some of the dirty work, maybe to coach Meyer’s comment earlier, becoming a little bit more calloused,” said Sumrall. “I think it became a little too casual, or a little too complacent, a little too comfortable. And so I think those things are probably where we’ve needed the most attention. That starts with the line of scrimmage. We’ve got a long way to go, man.”
The other element is recruiting. The Gators haven’t done nearly enough to land five-star recruits, coming in second far too often, and having their top commitments be high four-star recruits.
Sumrall is doing a lot to change that, and this is a massive step toward that goal.
