Florida Gators will be well represented at the NFL Scouting Combine, including a potential first-round pick
The Gators will have nine players in Indianapolis, including 28 percent of the specialists.
After sending four players to the Senior Bowl at the end of January, the Florida Gators had a really good week. All four participants had solid weeks throughout, especially defensive tackle Caleb Banks. He came out of Mobile looking like he secured his status as a first-round pick after an explosive week attacking offensive linemen.
He wasn’t alone either, as edge rusher Tyreak Sapp, center Jake Slaughter, and left tackle Austin Barber all had good weeks. With the Senior Bowl behind them, the next step is the NFL Scouting Combine.
Nine Florida Gators to participate at NFL Scouting Combine
The Gators will be well represented once again at Lucas Oil Stadium, sending nine players to the NFL Scouting Combine in two weeks.
- WR J. Michael Sturdivant
- OT Austin Barber
- C Jake Slaughter
- DT Caleb Banks
- EDGE George Gumbs Jr.
- EDGE Tyreak Sapp
- CB Devin Moore
- P Tommy Doman Jr.
- K Trey Smack
Not only are Jon Sumrall’s Gators going to be there in droves, but it’s relatively balanced between all three units.
The offense was filled with a lot of youth, but the offensive like was the one unit that was experienced. Slaughter is projected to be a day two pick, while Barber could potentially sneak into day two, but is likely a mid day three selection. Sturdivant was never the most productive player in college for a multitude of reasons, but a good week could end up getting him drafted.
The defensive line is the star for the Gators on defense with Banks and Sapp leading the way. The most intriguing player is Gumbs. He started his career at Northern Illinois as a wide receiver, which is one reason why he displays plus movement skills on the field. Moore is a sleeper at cornerback in a deeper class.
There are only seven specialists invited to the combine, and the Gators have two of them. Smack was one of the best kickers in college football this past season and Doman showcased his skills at the Shrine Bowl.
