After the first 11 games of the season, we are still looking to see who will be the next head coach of the Florida Gators. All eyes are on Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin to be the head coach for the 2026 season and beyond. However, the Gators aren’t the only team that wants him, as Ole Miss wants to retain him and the LSU Tigers have a massive offer on the table for Kiffin.

We know that a decision is coming on Saturday, November 29th, and it can’t come soon enough. Until then, three teams are sitting in limbo as Ole Miss is working on trying to win the Egg Bowl.

Florida Gators aren’t sitting idly by waiting for Lane Kiffin

While the Gators want Kiffin to be the head coach, there is a real chance that he isn’t going to be the guy. If that happens, Florida has done a good job in making sure they aren’t caught unprepared. On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos reported four names that the Gators have looked deep into.

“Florida and LSU have done work in earnest to be ready if they are left without Kiffin, sources tell On3. At Florida, options include Washington’s Jedd Fisch, Louisville’s Jeff Brohm, Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea and Tulane’s Jon Sumrall.”

Fisch has made sense from the beginning. He was a graduate assistant for Steve Spurrier back in the day, and that connection could end up making a difference. The other name that has been mentioned a couple of times is Sumrall, who reportedly was going to talk to the Gators last Thursday, but that news flipped just 93 minutes later.

The other two candidates in Brohm and Lea haven’t been mentioned much at all. Brohm runs a high-powered offense and Lea has built Vanderbilt into a playoff contender. The one thing that is the same with both coaches? They are at their alma mater’s.

Will they have to go to their second, third, or fourth options? We will find out soon, but at least athletic director Scott Stricklin is going to be prepared.
