Jadan Baugh needs to be a priority for the Gators.
The Florida Gators struggled massively against the Tennessee Volunteers, losing for the first time in The Swamp since 2003 by a score of 31-11.
It wasn’t just a loss to a bitter rival, they got embarrassed from start to finish. The Volunteers scored touchdowns on their first four drives and led 31-0 at halftime, something that should never happen in Gainesville. They were outplayed, outhustled, and outscored from start to finish, and it’s arguably the worst loss since the Gators hired Billy Napier, as this is his coaching staff.
Jadan Baugh is the lone bright spot for the Florida Gators
We can talk about the fact that the Gators have to play a lot of young players. There were a lot of freshman playing, especially in the secondary. The wide receiving corps was decimated by injuries, with Dallas Wilson and Tre Wilson both out for the season.
Of their skill players, the one still remaining is running back Jadan Baugh. In a night that was filled with poor effort and execution, the one player who rose above those issues was Baugh. He played the entire game like it was 0-0, and the effort kept the Gators offense somewhat afloat.
Baugh ran for 96 yards on 18 carries, and scored the only touchdown for the Gators on a 33 yard catch from quarterback DJ Lagway.
He was thriving in every way on Saturday night, getting hit in the backfield, spinning out of a tackle, and finding a way to get more yards. He runs violently, but it’s always with a purpose. He doesn’t waste movement with the ball in his hands, and runs like he desperately wants to play on Sunday’s.
It’s that kind of effort paired with his sheer talent that makes him such an important player for the Gators long-term. With a new coaching staff coming in, there is a high likelihood they will want to keep him on the roster. Will they be able to keep him? In today’s college football, that’s always a possibility with the transfer portal allowing players to do what’s best for them. As the Gators start a new era, potentially with Lane Kiffin, Baugh should be a priority no matter what.
