‘He’d be a splashy pick’ — Florida Gators recruiting is heating up, and Jon Sumrall is close to landing their top signal caller
The Florida Gators have gotten off to a great start with recruiting, and Jon Sumrall has made the quarterback position a priority. The next potential commit is a local prospect with a big arm in Davin Davidson.
The Florida Gators are wrapping up spring practice this week and finishing it off with the Orange and Blue game. Spring practice as a whole has been good for new head coach Jon Sumrall. The quarterback battle has raged on with Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr., and wide receiver Vernell Brown III has emerged into a leader on the team.
Recruiting has also taken a big upswing. They had a big recruiting event this past weekend, and will have a lot of recruits on campus for the spring game. They will be working to get multiple commits, and the next one could come at quarterback.
Florida Gators next recruiting commitment could come at quarterback
The Gators have been working to get multiple quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class. Five-star Elijah Haven has been at the top of the list for the Gators, but an in-state target could be the guy who commits first in four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.
“Davin Davidson is definitely the top target. He’d be a splashy pick because he’s making a lot of headlines this offseason, where he’s became a national name very quickly after doing some events. And I think Florida is the is the team to beat and won’t be beaten. There’s a top eight there, but Florida’s staff has prioritized him. He’s an in state kid only a couple hours away from Gainesville. I think Davidson is comfortable with that situation. I think Florida absolutely loves that situation. I think it gets done.
Rivals’ Josh Newberg
The 6-6, 210-pound quarterback out of Sarasota, Florida is a very intriguing player. He ranks as the 12th-ranked quarterback in the class, and the 132nd overall recruit per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking.
The Gators are far out front for Davidson, who visited on March 28th, with a 94.4% prediction on the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine. He would be a fascinating fit for Buster Faulkner’s offense, especially with his live arm and plus movement skills. There are a lot of pluses to his game, and plenty of room to develop.
If the Gators can land Davidson, it would be huge to keep the quarterback pipeline going for the Gators.
