The Florida Gators have had four practices under new head coach Jon Sumrall, and the vibes are sky high.

During Tuesday’s practice, they hosted the Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier and Bob Stoops. It’s not out of the ordinary to host former coaches at practice, especially with Spurrier living in Gainesville, but you can’t help but notice when they are there.

Jon Sumrall is doing all the right things

With spring break coming up, the players will have some time off from practice and classes. That doesn’t mean the work is done. Sumrall is going to have his players continue preparing.

“We’ll send them with a workout plan for the road, as we do during any break. Coach Whitt will put together a couple of runs and lifts you need to do during the week off. There does need to be some level of recovery, because we’re putting an amount of yardage on their bodies that they have not experienced even through the gauntlet,” said Sumrall.

Sumrall makes a really good point. They need to focus on both keeping themselves in the right state of mind and getting their bodies healthy. It isn’t just the team that is doing the right things; Sumrall is as well.

“Yeah, I’ll take a few days [off]. I’ll be here some and it’s my wife’s 40th birthday and our 15th anniversary this year,” Sumrall continued. “We were supposed to go to Italy for spring break. I took this job, so we’re gonna do something here in the state, but I will not be going to Italy because I got too much shit to do.”

You read that correctly. Sumrall is taking things very seriously with this job, and has been showing that he’s willing to do everything he can to bring the Gators back to prominence, which is exactly where they should be.

The vibes have been back with all the little things, and now it’s about translating to Saturday’s.
