The Florida Gators took an extra year to make the move, but they finally moved on from head coach Billy Napier after the homecoming game in October. It was about time when it happened, and they finally got their next head coach when they named Jon Sumrall as his replacement on Sunday.

The six weeks the fanbase had to wait for their next head coach were long, especially with all the Lane Kiffin drama. At one point, it felt like an almost certainty that he would be coming to Gainesville, but that changed right before the Egg Bowl. Now, Kiffin is at LSU, and the Gators have Sumrall.

Now that Sumrall is the next guy, it’s time to move on to the next aspect of the process. It’s also another reminder about Napier, and leave it to the Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier to take a shot at him right after the Sumrall hire.

“One of his comments about ‘Scared money don’t make money.’ What’s money got to do with 11 guys against 11 guys?” said Spurrier on the Another Dooley Noted Podcast.

Spurrier is so fascinating to listen to. He’s never shied away from a scathing quote, including his Free Shoes University and Peyton Manning returning to Tennessee to be the Florida Citrus Bowl MVP. We’ve heard numerous great ones from arguably the best quote machine in college football history. This one hits harder than most of his others, though.

Napier used that quote when talking about his in-game philosophy. Essentially, it means always being on the attack, going for it on fourth down, and being aggressive. Well, that wasn’t always the case with Napier’s strategy. Spurrier essentially called him out for an empty quote.

We all know that money is a significant factor in college football, but this was about the metaphor, not players receiving NIL and revenue sharing. It is also another signal of Napier’s poor tenure with the Gators.

Needless to say, Spurrier still has his fastball.
