Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall is prioritizing the transfer portal in a way that Billy Napier never did. After landing just six players in last year’s portal, Sumrall has already secured nearly triple that number. It’s a big deal seeing this shift in Gainesville, as they have lost nearly 30 players in the transfer portal.

Being that this time is so chaotic, what can we gather from the players who are commited to the Gators? There are a lot of talented players heading to Gainesville, and these players are the most intriguing.

Day 1 Contributor: RB Evan Pryor

Running back has been an intriguing spot for the Gators for years. They have had multiple interesting players who have gotten a shot in the NFL, including as undrafted free agents. Pryor feels like the next guy, especially when you consider how the NFL uses backfields in today’s day and age.

Pryor hasn’t been able to stay healthy over the course of his career, but he’s been explosive when he’s on the field. In the last two years at Cincinnati, Pryor has averaged 7.1 yards per carry, and has been very explosive through the hole. He’s a really nice complementary piece to Jadan Baugh.

Highest upside: DL Emmanuel Oyabadejo

The defensive line for the Gators has been a really interesting one over the years. Looking at the group coming back to Florida, they are missing four of their top eight players, losing Michai Boireau to the Ole Miss Rebels, along with Caleb Banks, Tyreak Sapp, and George Gumbs Jr. to the NFL Draft.

Oyabadejo is a fascinating player. He’s a massive man on the interior at 6-7 and 315 lbs with grown man strength and explosiveness. With how varied the defensive fronts can be, a player with his size and athleticism will be interesting to watch.

Underrated addition: DB DJ Coleman

Secondary is a priority for the Gators. They lost multiple safeties on the back end with young players filling up the safety depth chart. One player who will fortify the group is Coleman. A multi-year starter for the Baylor Bears, Coleman can play both safety positions and STAR, giving defensive coordinator Brad White a versatile weapon to work with.

Most intriguing: QB Aaron Philo

When we look back on this transfer portal class, it’s going to boil down to whether Aaron Philo pans out at quarterback. With DJ Lagway transferring to the Baylor Bears, Philo is the likely starter in 2026, with the possibility of either Trammel Jones Jr. or Will Griffin beating him out. What he does bring to the table is something we haven’t seen in Gainesville since Kyle Trask.

While Lagway and Anthony Richardson had incredible tools, Philo has shown the ability to operate the offense and stay on schedule, something neither could do with consistency. Being able to operate on schedule will be a welcomed change for the Gators.
