Trinidad Chambliss may have inadvertently just changed DJ Lagway’s transfer destination
DJ Lagway committed to the Baylor Bears, but his recruitment in the transfer portal isn’t over.
Former Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway committed to the Baylor Bears on Thursday afternoon, and it’s not a solid one.
Even though he committed to Dave Aranda at Baylor, Lagway is still planning to take other visits, including to the Ole Miss Rebels, who were recently eliminated from the College Football Playoff. He had previously visited the Florida State Seminoles.
Lagway’s recruitment has been fascinating to watch. It’s been obvious that the talent is impeccable, but there is no consistency. Why would Lagway commit to Baylor and take visits the next day? The answer is simple.
DJ Lagway re-opens commitment after Trinidad Chambliss news
Thursday night and Friday morning brought major news for Ole Miss. They lost 31-27 to the Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff semifinals in an instant classic. To pile on the pain, the NCAA denied quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ medical waiver, which would have granted him one more season of eligibility.
With Austin Simmons having committed to the Missouri Tigers, the Rebels have an opening for their starting quarterback next year. Lagway is an intriguing option for the Rebels, especially if head coach Pete Golding keeps the same style of offense.
Lagway possesses elite arm talent that can attack every inch of grass on the field, while having the athleticism and strength to maximize the quarterback run game. The fit is a great one, but there is one thing that clouds the discussion: Lagway’s bevy of injuries.
Last offseason, Lagway missed nearly the entire offseason with shoulder and hernia injuries. Then, he suffered a calf injury at the very beginning of fall camp that kept him out until the week leading up to the season opener against Long Island.
The reporting at the time was that Lagway would need surgery to repair the shoulder and hernia, but they haven’t happened yet. Will that matter for other teams in the transfer portal? Time will give us the answer there, but Lagway’s recruitment isn’t over.
