USA Today released its annual preseason coaches poll on Monday, and the Florida Gators made the initial list at 17th overall.

The Gators are in a good spot going into the season being ranked in the top 25, especially when it comes to potentially making the College Football Playoff. One element that helps them is being ahead of Tennessee, which is always a win for Gators fans. They are also behind six other SEC programs, which is a tough spot for the Gators, but a lot will change when these teams start playing each other.

Luckily for the media, this poll dropped right before they got to speak to head coach Billy Napier, and the ranking was the first question asked of him.

“I think for our team, it’s important that we’re focused on our process and not necessarily others opinions. I think if we connect our confidence to others opinions of ourselves and our team, then we will not end up being the best that we can be. I think we have to work each day if we can keep stacking days and focus on today, then that turns into a good week, turns into a good month.”

Napier has been consistent about doing the right things during his entire tenure, and it started to manifest in success at the end of last season, as the Gators won their last four games, with DJ Lagway winning all six of his starts that he finished. The only loss was against Georgia, a game they were up by seven at the end of the first half and even tied the game in the fourth quarter.

The Gators are working toward getting their first playoff berth, and the process of working hard every day is starting to translate into the win/loss column.
